Truggy Nats Round 1

Round one of the 2010 BRCA Truggy nationals took place at Talywain RC Car club in South Wales. 
A Fantastic welcome from the team at Talywain Racers found the track in fantastic condition and brought some fantastic close racing throughout day one with times that have improved every heat.

The Schedule for day one was 1 round of practice followed by a further 6 Rounds of  7 Minute qualifying sessions.

Some fantastic close heats brought the times tumbling throughout day one  and after the dust settled on the end of day one the battle for TQ was well underway. 

After completing day one the top 5 was as follows. 

   1.  Jon Howells (Associated RC8T)(RB Engines)
   2.  Ed Kerry (Losi 8T 2.0)(Novarossi Engines)
   3.  Michael Lewis (Kyosho STRR)(Novarossi Engines)
   4.  Joe Joyce (LRP S8TX)(OS Engines)
   5.Darren Hayden-Ball (Losi 8T 2.0)(Orion Engines)

 Day two found the conditions vastly changed with a very overcast and damp track and rain threatening. The format for day two was to be a further 2 rounds of 7 minute qualifiers with 35minute finals across the board.  The Battle for TQ was to be a close one with Ed Kerry needing 2 round wins to take the TQ and Jon Howells only needing the 1 and when the dust had settled and all was said and done Ed Kerry had managed to overturn the odds and snatch the TQ by 2 points.  The finals were to be 14 drivers battling it out for 35 minutes with the top 4 to bump up to the next final.  In The D Final with a number of drivers dropping out due to problems  Some fantastic driving in the difficult conditions saw 4 drivers top the final and progress into the C final.

With the Track now almost dry and the sun shining once again the drivers for the C Final Took to the track.   After 35 minutes of racing the Top 4 Drivers were as follows and progressed themselves into the B final

Now with things getting serious and the nationals getting to the business end of the finals the B finals got underway as the rain started to fall.  The track became slick but the shower was very short-lived and the drivers found themselves racing not only each other but the elements as well for those all important A final spots and a definite position in the Top 14 come the end of Round one. 
4 Drivers mastered the conditions and pushed each other to the limits to gain Bump up to the A Final.

Well all the hard work had lead to this.  The Top 14 surviving Truggy drivers from round 1 were to battle it out for the ultimate prize and an early lead in the 2010 Truggy National Champs. 
After 20 minutes it was obvious that 2 drivers were ahead of the game and were to battle it out for the win.  Ed Kerry and Matthew Lewis were going head to head and there could only be one winner.
Some fantastic driving in the closing stages saw Matthew Lewis build a 14 second gap up on 2nd place Ed Kerry and take the win in round one.
