2015 BRCA Clubman's round 5 at Eastbourne

10th Electric Circuit

This was the Fifth round of the 2015 clubman’s series. The track was ready and everything set up, when those who wanted to practice started arriving in the Saturday morning with timed practice starting at 11am. The weather was warm, pleasant and dry. Later in the day the track temperature was over 40 deg.

The clubman’s series consists of 2 touring car classes 17.5 blinky and 13.5 boosted both running on the Sorex 32 control tyre.

On the Sunday morning it was again warm and after practice. Qualifying started got under way at 10:20. The meeting was efficiently run by the Eastbourne club which resulted in a very good days racing with drivers having to adapt their driving style to the technical smooth Eastbourne circut.

As part of the reports this year we are doing a series of short feature on some of the junior drivers who are the future of touring cars. I’ve selected off central booking 1 from each class.

Joe Barry

Joe is twelve years old and has been racing for 18 months. Most of that time Joe has raced a Tamiya mini at the Eastbourne and Went Kent tracks. Joe has only recently started racing a touring car and this was his first clubman’s meeting. Joe enjoyed the experience of racing in the clubman’s and would like to do more meeting in the future but probably not until next season.

Joe is racing a Hot Bodies TCX and has installed a speed passion V3 motor and Speed passion esc.

Jos was pleased to get a trophy in his first round.

This year he is racing an Xray T311 with a Tekin redline gen2 motor with and Tekin RS Pro. At the moment Elliot prefers to use a steerwheel radio having also tried sticks. Elliot is enjoying his racing and hopes to do the full clubman’s series next year

Qualifying 17.5

Qualifying started on time with the track looking warm but in excellent condition for racing. 17.5 first followed by 13.5. The Eastbourne track is one of the smaller tracks with a modest straight and a technical infield which is challenging to get right. The track is also one of the smoothest tracks.

After the first round of qualifying the top 3 in 17.5 were Colin Jackson, Darren Tickner and Jason Butterfield car Colin had a significant gap with the car behind him being closely matched.
