It's Not a National Part 5

1/12th Circuit

Relive some races from past nationals.

For the fifth and final part of our “it’s not a national” series looking back at past events we are heading to Chesterfield who typically wrap up the series. The year to visit was an easy decision as 2017 hosted an epic race to decide the outcome of the Sports Modified Championship.

The 13.5 Stock Championship was the only one of the three 2017 titles that had been decided before this national. David Spashett had wrapped up the title in Poole but showed no hint of slowing down lining up on pole ahead of Matt Varah and Andy Murray.

On Sunday the modified class was poled by Ollie Payne on his way to winning the Modified Championship. A flying Louis Parker  would line up second with Andy Murray on third.

Onto the Sports Modified A final and one of the most memorable races that went right down to the last lap. There were four drivers in contention for the championship, Ben Vincent, Mark Jewitt, Mick Farrell and Matt rice and they would line up on the grid in that order.

The winning margin was tiny and the title was taken by 0.2 of a second. Excellent racing !

A great race seems like a fitting place to end the series. We hope you’ve enjoyed this trip into the archives and we look forward to bringing you race reports for the 2021/2022 nationals when the race season restarts later in the year.
