Rugby based Ben Harding & Owen Bates win 1/12th Stockcar European Championships

1/12th Scale Stockcars

7 English drivers made the long journey to Lobith in Holland for the 2016 1/12th European Championship.

Saturday was free practice all day and drivers were getting their cars set up ready for Sunday, where the format was 3 rounds with the best 2 to count.

5 English drivers progressed to the quarter finals. Ben Harding, Graham Eccles and Jason Reed were joined by 2 juniors, Owen Bates and James Eccles.

In total 4 of them qualified for the semi finals, with 3 actually winning their quarter. Ben Harding and Graham Eccles then made it through their semis to reach the championship final. The juniors weren’t too disheartened not to qualify as they had been excellent all weekend and had their own junior race to look forward to.

The junior final was made up of 9 cars, Owen started on pole with James on row 2. The race was scrappy but Owen kept his composure and eventually won by 4 laps to be crowned the new junior European Champion. James also did well and came in a close 4th place, well done to both!

Ben Harding and Graham Eccles were up against a field of Dutch drivers and as everybody expected, it was a tight race. Ben got away well at the start and traded places with Maikel Rutten throughout, but Ben held on to take the win just 1 second ahead of Maikel. Graham took the last podium place finishing in 3rd.

Congratulations to Ben Harding and Owen Bates!
