BRCA LSOR 2019 Rnd 4

Large Scale Off Road

Well what a weekend, the BRCA Large Scale Off Road Section (LSOR) reached its mid-season in turbulent conditions.

The Good
Firstly the section would like to thank the four host clubs who have been visited so far this season for providing us some cracking racing and venues, and despite the turbulent weather across the country over the last week a big well done to the Pickering RC club for providing a venue to race on this weekend.

Yes, turning up at a venue to be greeted with two ducks swimming on the water puddles must have been a sight to see for those early arrivals on Thursday. Despite Neil’s hard work the night before with cutting the grass the inclement weather had reached Yorkshire giving the ducks a new home.

track hoovering A big thank you to the drivers who made the journey to round 4 under the underknown weather conditions too, and to John Hall, Rob Harpham, Sohail “Syd” Iqbal, Ian Oddie for their efforts on Friday in sweeping and hoovering the track to give us a fighting chance of running the meeting and to Val for keeping me fed :).  Come Saturday morning the track was presentable and our normal practice session kicked off with the aim of running a round of qualification ahead of a potential shower Saturday evening. Well what can I say other than, we did it! The first round of qualification was over and 20 minutes later the heavens opened and not only did the ducks have a couple of puddles to swim on but now had a lake                         .

Whilst not all racers were left trackside Saturday evening a group meeting was held following the short sharp outburst encountered and with the forecast of a dry days racing on the cards for Sunday the drivers unanimously agreed to get up a couple of hours ahead of the meeting to help the Pickering crew clear the water. A call out was put up on Facebook and under a warm(er) morning drivers surfaced at 7am and by 8:30 a drivers briefing was underway and the track opened for 30 minutes of practice and then racing was underway. Great work guys.

8 hours later the meeting was over in now what could only be said was drying conditions and what a meeting it had been.

Thanks to John Hall for his support trackside, our scrutineering and refereeing teams and Gary Burns in race control, congratulations to our class winners and those currently leading our championships.

All our series results are available here, via the results menu above or under the section menu to the right.

Fingers crossed that our July round is more in keeping with the 2018 and not our current conditions.

Whilst the weekend had some good bits we also encountered some not so good bits too.

The bad

Whilst the section and our host clubs take all precautions can I take this opportunity to remind all parents that whilst we encourage families to support the series can we ask that you keep an eye on your children and remind them of the dangers around. Whilst I am pleased to report that Lycia is well after spending some time in hospital and having stiches for her wound it’s a stark reminder of the dangers all around and we know that children will be children but please remind them.

Big thanks to Guy Page for his assistance and to Andy Knight and Dane Whittleston for picking up the reins in the main finals.

The not so good

Well I am not going to dwell on this too much on here but those who stayed for the presentation heard what I had to say first hand and how disappointed I am and that certain actions will not be tolerated. It is a shame to end the day like this when 10 hours earlier you were all acting as one. Those attending the next two meetings will be getting a pep talk reminding them of driver etiquette, marshalling awareness and expected standards from our drivers.

The sections ethos has always been about being friendly, welcoming to all abilities whilst remaining professional and providing a fun family weekends racing so please let’s not lose sight of that.

Looking forward to the next four rounds of our 2019 season.
