2022 1/10 IC & GT8 BRCA Nationals Round 5 Brookland - Here's what happened!

The fifth and penultimate round was held on the 3rd and 4th September at the fast flowing Brookland Raceway in Kent.


The continued dry weather allowed plenty of practice on Saturday . Tyre wear was reasonable but managing fuel consumption on the fast circuit was to prove challenging for many drivers. Having already secured the 1/8 GTE championship Alex Thurston entered the 1/8th GT8 Nitro category. Adam Southgate moved from GT8 Nitro to test himself against the 220mm drivers.
Sunday started with a short practice session for those drivers unable to attend on
Saturday ,followed by four rounds of qualifying heats.



The final qualifying positions were as follows :

Finals:
A Final 200mm Touring
TQ Stefan made it five out of five with another dominant drive.Byron Russell took a comfortable second. There was a close battle for third between Dev and Matt Williams until Matt had to retire with a broken bumper.

A Final GT8 Nitro
TQ Alex Thurston cruised away after Mark Green had to retire. Ian McLarney maintained his qualifying form to take second. There was a close finish between Mark Boothman and the experienced Matt Baker with Mark edging it by one lap to complete the podium.

A Final 220mm GT
TQ Richard K led off but was caught by a charging Adam Southgate .There was a great race between the two with Adam gradually getting away.Meanwhile Richard Boult and several other drivers retired due mechanical and radio issues. Dev Mahatme moved up to third. Adam was about to pass Richard K when a coming together of both cars resulted in a broken hub for Adam and the end of his race. Ian Arkell who had mechanical issues managed to get to the end of the final to take third with Dev taking second.

A Final GT8 Electric

TQ Craig Woods drove faultlessly taking all three legs .Dave Dixon took second in all three legs .Mike Humphreys took third in two of the legs to gain a creditable podium finish.

Next up the final round at Halifax on the 1st and 2nd October with the AGM at 5pm on the Saturday with Sunday deciding the final championship positions.
