BRCA GT National round 2 MB Models 2016

1/12th Circuit GT

Round 2 was held at another fantastic venue, new to the racing scene in the UK. MB models permanent track located at their shop near Leeds. The racers arrived to pre grooved track from the warm up meeting the weekend before, this was done to settle the carpet as it it is a brand new venue and carpet

The Saturday got underway with GT10 , Adam Catchpole once again dominated the early qualifying rounds, however by the final round Aidan Ripley had found his pace and managed to TQ by 2.8 seconds from Adam. Onto the final, the same as round one the top 2 would have contact on the opening lap, this time Aidan coming off worse. As Adam waited for Aidan to rejoin this allowing 3rd place Ollie Payne through to the lead and the rest of the pack they would be at the back, Ollie pulled away and settled into his race, a super fast Adam was working hard to get back through the field, it would take him the remaining minutes to catch Ollie, with a couple of laps to go he was within striking distance, Ollie held his nerve and crossed the line 0.15 ahead of Adam taking a deserving win. Damage limitation for Aidan coming in 3rd. The Top 5 were: Ollie Payne, Adam Catchpole, Aidan Ripley, David Sedgwick and Mark Barford.

The F1 drivers faced some difficult track conditions with the high grip and technical layout, grip rolling being the main issue, with the drivers having to use the GRP control tyre as they come out the packet, not being allowed to glue the sidewalls, chassis setup would be crucial. it was Andy Murray who came out on top in these conditions TQing all 4 rounds with James Greener being the closest challenger lining up 2nd and Peter Craig 3rd. Andy lead the pack away in the final building a gap but an error on lap 22 would allow James to close in on Andy would maintain the lead and win by 1.5 seconds. The top 5 were: Andy Murray, James Greener, James Wright, Daniel Blake and Stephen Lander.

Onto Sunday and again all drivers competing in the GT12 category, this round had a record breaking entry of 94 racers, a great turnout for the section! also new for this round was the the new car from Schumacher, the Atom. Qualifying got underway with Adam Catchpole setting the pace, he would continue to top the time sheets in the following 3 rounds. having a gap from Andy Murray of 0.99 seconds. The highly anticipated final would get under way with everybody watching from the side of the track. As the buzzer went the drivers got away cleanly, with Adam and Andy breaking away from 3rd place James Hart. The pair were never more than cars length apart, gasps from the crowd as on lap 22 Adam made a small mistake entering the chicane going onto the straight, this was enough to allow Andy into the lead, Adam tried to make a move but on a track where overtaking was difficult, all he could do is keep the pressure on until the last lap but Andy crossed the line 0.19 seconds in front. A nail biting final that was enjoyed by all the spectators and showed what great racing you can get in this class. The top 5 were: Andy Murray, Adam Catchpole, James Hart, Aidan Ripley and Kieren Manders.
