World Champion wins 1:8th Stock Cars National Round 3

Round 3 of the National Series took place at NORA in Keighley, Yorkshire, with 20 drivers competing in mixed conditions after a spell of heavy rain showers interrupted a generally warm and sunny day.

Mark Whittaker and fellow Notts & Derby member Steve Farrer set the pace during the heats, qualifying straight through to the final – despite Steve completing an entire race without an outside rear wheel nut!

RSCL superstars Ben Harding and Dave Gwilliam confirmed their places in the final after surviving a chaotic first semi, with Dick Batty and Steve Farren qualifying from the second semi.

In the main race, Mark Whittaker got off to a flying start and pulled out a healthy lead by halfway, eventually finishing first but only just in front of Steve Farren after third place driver Ben Harding tried to force himself into contention with some aggressive bumper work against the world champion. Steve Farrer finished fourth after being on the receiving end of Ben’s bumper as well, meanwhile Dave Gwilliam had to settle for fifth with damaged rear tyres and Dick Batty retired to the pits early on.

Even though she didn’t make the final, Amelia Batty maintains her 2 point lead at the top of the table, with her dad taking over second place.

Thanks to the NORA team for putting on a great meeting!
