Sam Coult Takes the Crown at the GT12 National Grand Prix

The BRCA GT12 National Grand Prix returned to the Tamworth Radio Racing Auto Club this past weekend, bringing together the UK’s finest and most enthusiastic GT12 racers for two days of intense competition. While the racing was fierce across all finals, the weekend belonged to Sam Coult, who celebrated more than just another year on the calendar by securing a dominant overall victory.

Qualifying: Coult Sets the Pace
From the opening rounds of qualifying on Saturday afternoon, it was clear that Sam Coult arrived with a perfect setup. Utilizing the FTQ (Fastest Time Qualifying) format, Sam surged to the top of the leaderboards early. By the end of Sunday morning’s final qualifying runs though it was Dan Robins the 2022 GT champion had secured TQ (Top Qualifier), placing his Schumacher Atom 3 on the pole position for the triple-leg A-Finals.
Joining Dan & Sam at the sharp end of the grid were formidable competitors including Matt Gammons and youngster Freddy Parker, ensuring the battle for the win would require absolute precision.
Finals: A Birthday Masterclass
The GT12 GP format utilized a three-leg final system, where a driver’s two best scores determine the overall standings. Sam Coult wasted no time in the A-Finals:
 * Leg 1: It was Sam who took leg 1 maintaining a narrow but steady gap over the chasing pack. Despite pressure from Matt Gammons and Dan Robins. Sam remained composed to take the first win.
 * Leg 2: With the overall title within reach, Sam produced a great drive but it was Dan who produced the masterclass. Navigating the technical Tamworth layout with surgical precision, he secured his first leg win, handing him the advantage in championship race before the final leg would begin.
 * Leg 3: An uncharacteristically messy start unfolded and it was Freddy Parker who emerged in the lead closely followed by Sam and Dan. The smallest of mistakes at this level was all that was needed from Freddy and Sam and Dan were past to race for the victory. In the closing laps Dan attempted to pass but could find no way through handing the win and back to back GT titles to Sam.
